Our Baja Mil Race trip
We had a really nice time at the race. We left Morro Bay really early in the morning. We picked up Grampa Joe at his house. Mom and I used his bathroom for one last time. He has a really, really pretty house.
It was a long drive to Ensenada. Our first stop was at my favorite taco stand, Recreo. One of the guys that works there, Sabino, knew exactly what I wanted even though he hasn't seen me for over 6 months! It was very good!
Our friends Curt, Cy and Christy came down around 3 am. I was asleep and I didn't see them until morning. In the morning we got up, hung out for a little bit, then everyone started to pack the truck except me. I stayed in and watched t.v.
Curt, Cy and Christy were driving in Cy's Bronco. Our neighbors Jeff and Jamee had their own car.
When we were leaving Ensenada we stopped at a Pemex. I had to go potty. Mom took me and Grampa Joe went too. By accident he thought he was locking the bathroom door so no one could get in, but he was actually locking himself in! My mom had to go get the key from one of the workers. Jamee stayed with me.
It's was really fun driving out to our camping spot because we got to drive on part of the race course. My mom said that I could take my seat belt off like the others. I had to sit back and be very careful. The reason why it's fun to go on the race course without your seatbelt on is cause you bounce up and down and it's really fun. There were some hills that we went up and some we had to go down.
Our spot was around race mile 48. We got to see the racers going in both directions, first in the beginning of the race, then later they came back again for the end of the race. I got my nice little warm tent to sleep in. Mom and Dern slept out in the cold on their cots. Both of the dogs got to sleep with me the first night. The last two nights Cora was too busy doing other things.
Our theme was Tecate. We set up Tecate flyers. We made Christy a bikini top out of two Tecate pennants. We set up a living room with a couch, fake grass, carpeting, tiki torches, a pink flamingo and a palm tree. At night we had a campfire and Christmas lights that twinkled.
The motorcycles came first, then trucks then buggies. I watched the race from the truck and from the couch. For some of the trophy trucks there were helicopters. It was scary cause the helicopters flew so low! We had a race radio with an outside speaker so we could hear the racers talking. The race went all day and night on Friday and most of the day Saturday. I had to go to bed Friday night cause it was like midnight and I was getting cranky.
Saturday we watched some of the last racers go by and headed out back to Ensenada sometime after noon. We had to pull over a couple of times to let racers go by.
We had a VERY good Baja 1000.
We have a lot of photos so if anyone wants to see them, let me know.
